5 United Way Partners Building a More Financially Stable Community

Across the greater Charlotte region, we believe everyone should have the opportunity to acquire the knowledge, skills and resources they need to become financially stable.

 

Whether it’s instability due to a family crisis, unemployment or a history of financial hardship, we work every day to connect our neighbors in need to programs and services to help them break the cycle of poverty and attain independence and a better quality of life.

 

United Way supports our five-county footprint through a network of community partners, including several organizations focused on helping individuals and families achieve financial stability. Here are some of our partners helping to ensure everyone in our region has access to key financial resources:

 

ANSON | Union-Anson County Habitat for Humanity

 

Union-Anson County Habitat for Humanity helps families build strength, stability and self-reliance by providing basic, affordable homeownership to people of limited resources who show a commitment to Habitat’s philosophy of homeownership.

 

Each year, the organization builds 10-12 new homes in the Union and Anson communities and helps more than 40 families with critical home repairs.

 

Habitat’s Urgent Repair program does necessary home repairs for senior adults, veterans and disabled persons who own their homes but do not have the financial means to make repairs.

 

CABARRUS | Charlotte Center for Legal Advocacy

 

Charlotte Center for Legal Advocacy provides legal and advocacy assistance to eligible low-income individuals and families in areas of North Carolina, including Cabarrus, Mecklenburg and Union counties.

 

The organization particularly focuses on the needs of those who don’t have adequate resources to obtain essential legal services – children, senior adults, immigrants, veterans and disabled persons.

 

Through legal representation, the organization aims to help people achieve economic security and financial stability by securing sufficient income to meet basic needs, maintaining affordable permanent housing and finding reliable transportation, among other needs.

 

MECKLENBURG | Brookhill Community Organization

 

Brookhill Community Organization focuses on bringing community services and support to residents in the Brookhill, South End and Wilmore communities in Charlotte.

 

In Brookhill, the organization is creating a Community Resources Center for residents to improve employment, complete schoolwork and access health care, financial education and senior services.

 

Brookhill Community Organization’s neighborhood work is supported by funding from United Way’s Unite Charlotte and United Neighborhoods programs.

 

MOORESVILLE-LAKE NORMAN | Ada Jenkins Center

 

Ada Jenkins Center exists to help people in south Iredell and north Mecklenburg counties break the cycle of poverty and gain economic independence through health, education and financial stability solutions.

 

The Access Pathway program bridges the gap for people in economic limbo by creating a channel where people can easily access the organization’s services to help them avoid slipping into poverty because of a single need like medical services.

 

Through participation in this program, families are given the support necessary to meet present needs to maintain and/or improve economic stability.

 

UNION | Union County Community Shelter

 

Union County Community Shelter provides food, emergency shelter and instruction to individuals and families in need in Union County, while promoting a pathway to self-sufficiency that includes financial stability and permanent housing.

 

The Rapid Rehousing program moves homeless men, women and families into permanent housing and provides case management for budgeting, rent deposits, landlord relationships, utility support and other needs.

 

Additionally, the Shelter and Feeding program assists people with food security so they are able use their income on housing, transportation and other resources, thus aiming to prevent financial instability and/or homelessness.
