Community Voices Are Leading the Future of Lakeview

Real change begins when communities are heard.

On May 7, residents, Zone Captains, community leaders and partners gathered for a powerful Community Visioning Session and Data Walk hosted by Lakeview Neighborhood Alliance in partnership with United Way of Greater Charlotte. Together, neighbors explored the realities facing the Lakeview community while also imagining what is possible when residents lead the conversation about their future.

The session centered on more than data. It centered on people. Through the Data Walk, participants reviewed key community insights and discussed the challenges and opportunities impacting families across Lakeview. Conversations focused on housing, economic opportunity, neighborhood development and the importance of preserving the voices and experiences of longtime residents as the community continues to grow and evolve.

What made the evening meaningful was the shared commitment to ensuring that development happens with the community, not around it. Residents openly shared their perspectives, hopes and concerns while identifying priorities for the future of Lakeview. The session created space for honest dialogue, collaboration and collective problem-solving rooted in equity and community leadership.

At United Way of Greater Charlotte, we believe lasting change happens when communities have the tools, information and support needed to shape their own future. This gathering reflected the power of neighbors coming together to move from conversation to action and from ideas to impact.

We are grateful to Lakeview Neighborhood Alliance for their partnership and for capturing and sharing moments from this important event. Their leadership continues to help create spaces where residents are seen, heard and empowered.

The work ahead will require continued partnership, trust and action, but one thing is clear: the future of Lakeview should be shaped by the people who call it home.

And that work is already underway.
