Volunteer Spreads Positivity by Engaging with Hands On Charlotte

A few years ago, Jermone Jackson was going through a rough time in life.

“At some point I decided that there was enough negativity in my life and in the world in general that I needed to put some positivity back out there,” he said.

This decision led Jermone to get involved with United Way’s Hands On Charlotte. Initially serving as a way to escape the pressures in his life, volunteering with Hands On Charlotte now has turned into a rewarding experience for Jermone.

He actively volunteers with The Sky Is The Limit Community Development Corporation, a nonprofit organization compassionately dedicated to improving the future of at-risk youth by approaching their needs in a holistic manner. The program provides free tutoring services as well as mentoring and athletic programs for kids in our community.

“One of my most memorable experiences was when one of the kids I was tutoring told me with a smile on his face that he got a B on one of his recent tests,” Jermone said.

Hearing this news, Jermone said it made him feel like he was doing something that truly mattered.

Jermone’s experience with Hands On Charlotte goes beyond helping children in our community.  He also enjoys making meaningful connections with like-minded individuals. Looking towards the future, Jermone plans to continue to do his part to give back to the community.

“The volunteers that I get to work with are some of the most awesome people you will ever meet,” he said. “Hands On Charlotte is one of the most fulfilling things that you will ever experience and I’m so happy to be a part of it.”
