Extending Gratitude with Final Round of COVID-19 Response Fund Grants

Dear community,

 

Fifteen months after United Way of Central Carolinas and Foundation For The Carolinas partnered to launch the Charlotte-Mecklenburg COVID-19 Response Fund—with support from the City of Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, corporations, foundations and grassroots leaders—we are pleased to share that in total, more than $23.5 million was granted to 240 area nonprofits helping those affected by the pandemic.

 

This month, we awarded more than $1.6 million to nonprofits in the seventh and final round of grants from the fund. These final grants went to organizations providing safety net services such as housing/shelter, food and emergency financial assistance including rent and utility assistance. This round also sought to support grassroots and neighborhood-based organizations with budgets less than $1 million.

 

The incredible generosity of our community has allowed us to provide hundreds of grants that have assisted thousands of our neighbors. We continue to be inspired by the more than 1,200 donors who came together to support our community and local nonprofits experiencing increased need and demand for services.

 

With these final grant awards, we extend our deepest thanks to the volunteers, as well as the individuals, corporations and foundations who contributed to the fund. Your support made the COVID-19 Response Fund possible.

 

Special thanks to the COVID-19 Response Fund Grants Committee, which reviewed applications for each round of funding and helped inform our priorities and make tough decisions.

 

We also recognize the extraordinary and ongoing work of local nonprofits that continue to serve on the frontlines and address the pandemic-related needs of our community. Thanks to their hard work and your generosity, lives are changing for the good.
