GreerWalker LLP Champions a Culture of Community Service
GreerWalker LLP is committed to making a difference in the communities where its employees live and work, championing community involvement as a foundation of the firm.
For three decades, the CPA firm has developed a strong culture of community service and believes that, as a business leader, it is vital to play an active role in improving the community.
“Being visible and active in our community has always been one of our core values,” said Charlie Greer, GreerWalker’s co-founder, who has been a United Way donor for more than 40 years. “I am proud to see our firm not accept the status quo and want to change our community for the better.”
In 2019, GreerWalker employees in Charlotte raised nearly $55,000—the highest amount to date—through the firm’s annual United Way of Central Carolinas employee giving campaign. By taking steps to re-energize the campaign with engaging activities like trivia, putt-putt golf and corn hole competitions, employee giving participation increased to 93 percent in 2019, up from 49 percent the previous year.
“We put the FUN back into fundraising!” said Frank Greer, GreerWalker senior associate, tax services.
GreerWalker communicates its core value of community involvement the day an employee is hired. This value is communicated during new employee training and integrated into the company communications on a regular basis throughout the year.
In addition to encouraging employees to give financially, GreerWalker challenges team members to give their time and talents by engaging in community service projects and volunteering as board members and directors with organizations across Charlotte. Employees currently serve on more than 70 nonprofit boards and committees, including multiple United Way partner agencies.
“I am glad to work at a company that allows the younger folks like me to lead an effort that makes a difference in our community,” said Miles McAdams, GreerWalker associate, tax services.
The firm’s culture of philanthropy continually motivates employees to be dedicated, focused and excited about making a difference across Charlotte. This commitment to their community parallels their dedication to their clients and profession.
For being a leader in embracing a united spirit of giving and serving the community, GreerWalker was honored with a Spirit of North Carolina Award on February 19, 2020 in Pinehurst during an awards luncheon presented by United Way of North Carolina.
“We were very intentional this year about getting the whole firm involved in the United Way campaign,” said Jonathan Mangels, GreerWalker partner. “This award recognizes all the hard work that everyone put into making our campaign a success, which hopefully will continue in the years to come.”
