Wells Fargo is First in Philanthropy

Wells Fargo likes being first.

When United Way of Central Carolinas wanted to pilot a new initiative focused on helping students graduate, the Wells Fargo Foundation stepped up to launch it with $200,000 in seed funding.

When we launched another initiative focused on reducing homelessness, the Wells Fargo Foundation again provided a $200,000 grant to fund the pilot program.

When Charlotte’s unrest roiled uptown last September, Wells Fargo was the first and largest funder to back Unite Charlotte, providing $250,000 toward a new fund administered by United Way aimed at rebuilding trust and creating opportunities.

And a year ago in April, Wells Fargo’s generous employee and corporate giving propelled them to United Way’s No. 1 spot in local campaign support for the first time, mirroring their No. 1 status with United Way globally.

“Wells Fargo is always the first to support philanthropic innovation,” said Sherill Carrington, United Way’s assistant vice president of corporate partnerships. “If this community needs something, Wells Fargo leads the way in backing the solution.”

The bank’s local support doesn’t stop with its financial commitment – they also deploy team members out in the community to volunteer.

“Wells Fargo team members volunteered over 150,000‎ hours in the greater Charlotte region last year,” said Jay Everette, Wells Fargo’s senior community relations manager. “We bring both our financial and human capital to serve the community’s greatest needs.”

From Wells Fargo’s Day of Caring in June, organized with support from our Hands On Charlotte team, to board leadership at United Way and dozens of other vital nonprofits, Wells Fargo is committed to creating a stronger Charlotte and a global community of care.
