United Way Appoints President and CEO

On behalf of the United Way of Greater Charlotte Board of Directors, I am excited to announce that Kathryn Firmin-Sellers has been named President and CEO, effective April 1, 2025. After conducting a thorough national search led by Charlotte-based firm Nexus Search Partners, the Board proudly selects Kathryn to continue leading United Way into its next chapter and serving the needs of the greater Charlotte community.

Kathryn has been an integral part of United Way for nearly a decade, bringing a deep commitment to the mission, an intimate understanding of the needs of the greater Charlotte community, and a proven track record of driving impact and results. Over the past nine months as Interim President and CEO, she has continued to advance our work, overseeing nearly $18 million in community investments and supporting 134 nonprofit organizations across our four-county footprint.

Under Kathryn’s leadership and with her unwavering commitment to United Way’s mission, we look forward to continuing the critical work of supporting children and families in our region.

As she transitions into the permanent role, Kathryn will continue to advance the strategic priorities of the organization, support the evolving needs of the greater Charlotte community, ensure the United Way team’s alignment to the critical mission of the organization, and engage with key stakeholders and community leaders to continue expanding the organization’s community impact efforts.

We are excited for this next chapter for our organization and grateful for your ongoing support as Kathryn transitions into her role. Together, we will continue to build a stronger, more equitable future for all. To learn more about Kathryn’s experience and leadership, you can view her full bio here.
