Be a Part of These A-LIST Events in September

As the summer months wind down, United Way’s A-LIST is gearing up for more networking and volunteerism events focused on professional development and community engagement.

A-LIST unites African American trailblazers to lead, influence, support and teach our community to foster social equality. The group provides education and awareness around the issue of workforce development and how it relates to economic mobility in our region.

In September, A-LIST is holding two unique events – the first brings together area leaders to discuss community challenges, and the second encourages beautification of our neighborhoods.

Boardroom Business

Tuesday, September 11 | 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Local executives and community leaders will join A-LIST at the third installment of the 2018 Boardroom Business professional development series. The first two events highlighted the impact of community leadership on career development and strengthening social capital for people in the Charlotte region.

At this event, Bill Currens Jr., Senior Vice President, Financial Planning and Analysis at Duke Energy, will lead a group of panelists who will share how time, talent and treasure can transform our community.

Panelists include Lloyd Yates, Executive Vice President, Customer and Delivery Operations and President, Carolinas Region at Duke Energy; Malcomb Coley, Carolinas Market Leader and Charlotte Managing Partner at EY; and Astrid Chirinos, Executive Director at Simmons YMCA.

This great professional development event is sponsored by and hosted at Duke Energy.

National CleanUp Day

Saturday, September 15 | 9 a.m.-12 p.m.

A-LIST encourages individuals and families to roll up their sleeves to help spruce up two local neighborhoods in conjunction with National Clean Up Day.

Volunteers can choose from two projects – beautifying parts of the 73-acre Sugaw Creek Park in the Sugar Creek neighborhood or assisting at the Coltrane Life Center in Concord with projects like grounds maintenance, van washing and indoor cleaning.

This feel-good event is presented by Duke Energy and aims to make our neighborhoods better places to live.

Each project has limited spots so make sure to reserve yours today!
