TIAA Deepens its Partnership with United Way

Community service is part of the very fabric of TIAA, which was founded by Andrew Carnegie to serve those who serve others.

 

So when United Way offered to work with TIAA to make their local philanthropy more strategic, TIAA quickly got on board.

 

The two organizations have collaborated for many years, but by formalizing a structured partnership agreement, TIAA and United Way see opportunities to leverage their shared strengths for much greater community impact.

 

“What I’m really excited about is how easy it has been to work with United Way in exploring creative ways to broaden our reach,” said Jarian Kerekes, ‎TIAA’s director of corporate social responsibility. “Rather than have our philanthropic efforts occur in isolation, this new partnership with United Way enables us to drive impact in a much more proactive, coordinated fashion.”

 

For example, to help more TIAA employees get involved in supporting local schools, United Way recently hosted a Tiny Library build on their campus. By bringing the engagement opportunity out to TIAA in University City, more than 125 employees were able to help build the Tiny Libraries in multiple phases throughout the day.

 

 

Meanwhile, hundreds of other TIAA employees, from various locations across the community, participated in a virtual book drive to fill the libraries with 1,300 new books for nearby CMS schools.

 

That kind of flexibility – United Way’s capacity to tailor opportunities for its corporate partners – is central to the expanded TIAA relationship. Other components:

 

• Working together to deepen the impact of TIAA’s funding for United Way partner agencies.

• Creating customized volunteer opportunities to help grow employee participation.

• Providing high-level engagement opportunities in United Way’s Women United group.

• Leadership participation in upcoming United Way events.

 

It all adds up to stronger support for our community as TIAA and United Way move forward together.
