Supporting the Mission to Live United Across Our Community
Strong. Sustainable. Healthy. Safe.
These are the kind of communities United Way of Central Carolinas is committed to building.
We’re excited to join United Ways across the globe to for the LIVE UNITED Initiative! Launched on June 1, the inaugural initiative focuses on the recovery, reimagining and rebuilding of our community into a stronger, more equitable place post-COVID.
While United Way of Central Carolinas has always been focused on helping the most vulnerable in the Charlotte region to close the divide in health, financial stability and education, we recognize that the intersection of the COVID-19 pandemic and racial inequality has widened that gap. Our community needs us more than ever to help reimagine and rebuild stronger, more equitable places where everyone can thrive.
The $1 billion United Way raised for COVID-19 relief efforts globally is now in our communities. It helped more than 27 million people stay in their homes, feed their families, keep the lights on, and more. Locally, across the Charlotte region the generosity of companies and individuals allowed United Way of Central Carolinas and Foundation For The Carolinas to inject $25 million into the community for COVID-19 response and recovery.
We know that recovery will take a while, and that our work is not over. More than 225 million jobs have been lost globally, educators and parents worry about learning loss, especially for low-income children of color, and United Ways are still fielding record requests for help.
No other organization is better positioned to do this work than United Way. As the COVID-19 pandemic and its aftermath continues, so does United Way’s work for an equitable, stronger, and better future for us all.
Rebuilding isn’t a matter of going back to where we were. It’s reimagining how we can be better, and building towards that together. Help build lasting change by supporting United Way’s mission to Live United—a commitment to create communities where this generation, the next one and the ones after can thrive.
