United Way grants $50K to Anson County nonprofits serving those impacted by COVID-19

United Way of Central Carolinas has awarded $50,000 in grants to six Anson County nonprofits aiding people impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. The funds were available thanks to a donation from Lowe’s in response to the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 crisis.

 

The grants will support nonprofits providing food, shelter, financial assistance and healthcare to those most vulnerable. Grants were awarded by a committee of local leaders representing government, the business community and the healthcare industry: Beth Diggs, with Atrium Health, United Way’s Anson County advisory board chair and community impact chair and a United Way regional board member; Kisha Dunlap with Anson County Department of Social Services; Caty Edwards with Plank Road Realty; and Lula Jackson, director of Anson County Department of Social Services and a member of United Way’s Anson County advisory board.

 

“We are so thankful for the incredibly generous corporate donation that made this fund a reality—making it possible for many in our community to be fed, receive utility assistance and remain in their homes during this crisis,” said Ivy Allen, regional development director (Union and Anson Counties), United Way of Central Carolinas. “United Way is grateful to partner with and support local nonprofits to provide some much needed relief to our community neighbors.”

 

Grants include:

 

• $5,000 to Anson County Partnership for Children for food assistance for children and families in need.
• $5,000 to Anson Crisis Ministry for transportation to secure food assistance for those in need.
• $5,000 to Burnsville Recreational and Learning for food assistance for low-income individuals and families in need.
• $15,000 to Feed My Lambs Inc. for food assistance for those in need.
• $15,000 to First Presbyterian Church, Wadesboro NC for rent/mortgage and utility assistance for those in need.
• $5,000 to Harvest Ministries of Anson County Inc. for groceries, hygiene products, infant/toddler supplies and meals for children, youth and senior adults.
