5 United Way Partners Advancing Healthy Living

Access to health care is vital for children’s growth and development and for adults to live a full and productive life. Without affordable, quality health care services and programs, chronic disease, illness and mental health concerns can permanently impact the physical, emotional and financial well-being of individuals and families.

 

“Health and mental health related issues are one of the primary reasons people miss work. When parents and caregivers can’t work, they lose income which impacts the well-being of their entire family,” said Laura Clark, president and CEO of United Way of Central Carolinas. “United Way ensures those with limited resources have access to an array of health and mental health services so that they can get healthy, stay healthy and provide for their children and families.”

 

United Way supports our five-county footprint through a network of community partners, including several organizations focused on helping individuals and families maintain healthy lives.

 

Here are some of our partners helping to ensure everyone in our region has the tools and resources needed to achieve optimal health:

 

ANSON | HealthQuest

 

HealthQuest is a licensed nonprofit pharmacy serving low-income and uninsured residents in Anson, Union and Stanly counties, as well as Chesterfield and Lancaster counties in South Carolina.

 

The Medication Assistance Program provides monthly medications to people who cannot afford prescriptions for their chronic medical conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol and depression, among others.

 

Additionally, HealthQuest provides diabetic education and testing supplies to residents when needed.

 

CABARRUS | Mental Health America of Central Carolinas

 

Mental Health America of Central Carolinas promotes mental wellness through advocacy, prevention and education programs to change and save lives in the community.

 

The ParentVOICE program provides support and instruction to parents and caregivers of youth in Cabarrus and Mecklenburg counties who are experiencing behavioral, emotional and/or mental health challenges.

 

Through other education and outreach programming, Mental Health America equips individuals with the tools and knowledge to advocate for themselves and their families.

 

MECKLENBURG | Care Ring

 

Care Ring provides low-income, underserved individuals access to high-quality healthcare through its Access to Care and Nurse-Family Partnership programs.

 

Through the Access to Care program, residents can receive comprehensive primary care, specialty care, dental services, lab work and more. Care Ring has a staff member focusing on referring and enrolling residents who live in the Grier Heights neighborhood.

 

Care Ring’s Nurse-Family Partnership program aims to have a regular presence in the Renaissance neighborhood to provide information and referrals for the nurse-home visitation program that supports moms from pregnancy through the child’s second birthday.

 

MOORESVILLE-LAKE NORMAN | Lake Norman Community Health Clinic

 

Lake Norman Community Health Clinic offers acute and chronic care and education programs for uninsured individuals and families in Mecklenburg and south Iredell counties.

 

The Chronic Disease Management Program focuses on prevention and treatment of disease, as well as managing healthy outcomes for patients.

 

On-site services include primary care, orthopedics, women’s health services, physical therapy, nutrition classes, smoking cessation, diabetes counseling and more, creating a one-stop care experience.

 

UNION | Community Health Services of Union County

 

Community Health Services of Union County provides access to medical care for uninsured adult residents who don’t have a physician and who live in Union and Anson counties.

 

The Free Clinic is geared toward self-management of acute and chronic illnesses such as infection, heart disease and diabetes, among other ailments.

 

For qualifying patients, the clinic offers services including primary care, health screenings, diabetic supplies, emergency prescription assistance, flu vaccinations and personalized care plans.
